About Us

The Hidden Lakes Recreation Association was formed in 1982 shortly after the Declaration of Unit Ownership for the Hidden Lakes Condominium.  The original plan was to develop the Condominium in several stages with up to 400 units to be built on property surrounding Berger Lake.  Only Phase I, consisting of 41 units, was completed.  The rest of the property was sold to another developer.

Through a 1988 agreement, the Recreation Association kept ownership of the lake and was granted an easement for the walkway around the lake.  The Hidden Lakes Retirement Home complex was then built along the north and east shores.  The south shore is held by a different owner and remains undeveloped.

The Recreation Association is responsible for maintaining the lake, the walkway and the lake shore for the benefit of all the lakeshore owners.  All owners surrounding Berger Lake are members of the Recreation Association.  See the Ownership Map for details.

Berger Lake is the result of a rock quarry that was first developed in the early 1900s.  The rock was used to build the Salem Street Railway.  See this brief history for more details.
